Floor Insulation: One Small Step for Comfort.

floor insulation

Floor insulation is key to keeping you comfortable in your home all year long. Insulating your floors goes a long way to ensure they stay warm when it is cold outside and cool during the warmer months.

HomeRx knows just how important proper insulation is for your entire home. Our insulation experts can help you maximize your home’s energy efficiency while boosting your comfort level and reducing your energy bills.

When it comes to adding floor insulation to your home, the benefits are substantial. Let’s get started adding floor insulation to your new build or retrofit for your current home.

Why Is Underfloor Insulation Important?

Insulating your floors can significantly improve thermal performance. With properly insulated floors, you can reduce temperature variations and energy use. That means your heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system does not have to work so hard, and you can enjoy lower energy costs each month. It can even increase your property value and is a major selling point if you list your home for sale.

Benefits of Adding Insulation to Your Floors

Here is a breakdown of the benefits you can enjoy when you insulate your floors:

Improved Level of Comfort. If you are tired of drafts and losing heat through your floors when all you want is to feel warm and cozy inside your home, it is time to insulate your floors. Properly insulated floors will prevent warm air from escaping. The same goes for the summertime—floor insulation is an effective solution to keep your home cooler.

Savings on Your Energy Expenses. Without floor insulation, heat escapes through your floors, which forces your heating system to work harder and produce more heat. Properly insulated floors prevent heat loss, which supports a more energy-efficient system and lowers your energy costs. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates you could save up to 15 percent on your heating and cooling expenses when you insulate your home. Get started with our experts so you can start saving!

Reduced Noise. Floor insulation acts as a sound barrier, minimizing noise transmission between different levels of your property. This can be particularly beneficial if you have a multi-story home. Insulating your floors helps control noise so you can enjoy the peace and quiet on each floor of your home.

Moisture Control. Insulation can help protect your floors from moisture and dampness, which can otherwise cause damage to floorboards and lead to mold growth. Not only will this protect your property and belongings, but it will also keep you and your loved ones safe and healthy.

Types of Floor Insulation

There are several different types of floor insulation options, most notably the following:

Batt Insulation

Fiberglass batts provide quality insulation at a competitive price. Properly installed, it’s the most affordable way to effectively insulate a home. This insulation type is a great option for just about anywhere—exterior walls, floors, ceilings, attics, basements, and other areas of your home. Homeowners love fiberglass because it is cost effective, easy to use, and poses no fire threat. Plus, it is a terrific thermal insulator.

Spray Foam Insulation

Spray foam insulation reduces air leakage and gives maximum comfort to your home. With mechanical ventilation, it is an effective moisture management strategy too.

Spray foam has an advantage over other forms of insulation because it can fill tight crevices. It is the strongest option for maintaining indoor temperature. Plus, homes insulated with spray foam enjoy better protection against mold and mildew. It also creates a natural sound barrier so you can enjoy your quiet time.

Benefits include:

  • Thermal resistance — enjoy lower heating and cooling costs. Spray foam fills gaps and voids to create a barrier that prevents energy loss. It also provides a superior R-value (resistance to heat flow / insulating power).
  • Moisture barrier — controls moisture to help prevent mold, mildew, and bacterial growth. Plus, it keeps out dust and other pollutants to maintain a healthy indoor air quality (IAQ).
  • Air barrier — creates a seamless insulated barrier to minimize air leakage and reduce outside noises.

How to Choose Your Floor Insulation

Ready to insulate your floors but not sure where to start? Call our HomeRx professionals. Our experts can assess your floors and home so we can recommend the best insulation and install it for you.

We will take the following into account when recommending the right floor insulation for you and your home:

R-Value. The R-value indicates thermal resistance, with higher values offering better insulation. It is important to choose an appropriate R-value based on your desired level of energy efficiency while also keeping the climate here in Oregon in mind.

Material. Each insulation type has its advantages and applications. When recommending an insulation material, we will first discuss your particular goals and factor in the cost of materials, installation requirements, and moisture resistance.

Space. Our experts will evaluate the available space for insulation. In existing buildings, blown-in or spray foam insulation might be more practical due to limited access.

Environmental Impact. If eco-friendliness is a priority, we may recommend insulation materials with higher sustainability and recyclability.

Customer Reviews

After I learned of tax rebates and credits for energy, I decided to look into adding insulation for my 1990 home. Nelsin from HomeRx performed an in-depth estimate by actually entering the attics (yes, 2 separate spaces) and the crawl space to obtain measurements. The other firm that gave me an estimate just peeked inside but never bothered to enter the spaces. I hired HomeRx and am so pleased with their work! Both the attics as well as the crawl space were completed by 2 crews in about 8 hours. These guys were such hard workers and took all the precautions to protect my floors and furnishings. The best part? They did a SUPER cleanup job and hauled away all the old junk and plastic liner from the crawlspace. I hope I don't need insulation work again but if I do, this company definitely gets my business.

Samuel, thanks so much for the pictures. I really appreciate your efforts. Thanks also, for doing such a great job insulating my home. It’s much warmer and less black stuff on my floors, etc. from dirty air. You were great to work with and patient and went the extra mile for me. Thank you so very much. Your workers were great also. Worked har, were polite and did a good job.

I had HomeRx Insulation add blown in insulation in the garage attic after a water pipe burst caused ceiling drywall and insulation damage. Getting an estimate was easy and free. The estimator was nice and noted all the places I wanted covered. After the garage repairs were done...They put baffles in the soffit vent areas, filled the soffit areas with insulation and wrapped the water pipe so it won't burst again. They needed to drill holes in the garage attic floor to get insulation in certain areas and seamlessly plugged those holes afterwards. They even wrapped a couple ducts in the attic that had missing and/or inadequate insulation (part of the estimate but not part of the damage, not a necessity...but hey...they did it so I'm happy). The installers were nice and made sure they showed me their work. I was impressed with the quality of work. I think they went above and beyond in their work and pleased with the outcome. If I ever need more insulation work in the future...I will certainly be calling HomeRx.
