Learn From Portland Insulation Experts
In Portland, the best types of insulation include fiberglass, cellulose, and spray foam. Fiberglass and cellulose are cost-effective and provide good thermal resistance. Spray foam offers superior air sealing and higher R-values, making it ideal for reducing energy costs in the variable Pacific NW climate.

Signs that your home may need more insulation include uneven temperatures between rooms, high energy bills, drafts, and walls that are cold to the touch. You might also notice ice dams forming on your roof during winter.

The cost of insulating a home in Portland varies based on the size of the home, the type of insulation used, and the areas being insulated. On average, homeowners might spend between $1,500 and $4,500 for insulation projects that improve home comfort and lower energy costs. Attic insulation tends to be less expensive than wall or crawl space insulation.
Important to note, there are often rebates and tax incentives — including the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (Inflation Reduction Act) that can save up to $1,200 each year on professionally-installed insulation materials — that help lower your total cost. As part of our service, we do all we can to help you capture the savings for which you are eligible.
Yes, proper insulation can significantly reduce energy bills by improving your home’s energy efficiency. Insulation keeps warm air inside during the winter and cool air inside during the summer, reducing the need for heating and cooling. Homeowners often see a noticeable reduction in their utility bills after upgrading insulation.
The R-value measures an insulation material’s resistance to heat flow; the higher the R-value, the better the insulation’s effectiveness. In Portland, recommended R-values are R-38 to R-60 for attics, R-13 to R-23 for walls, and at least R-30 for floors. Choosing insulation with the appropriate R-value ensures optimal energy efficiency and comfort.
Insulation can last for decades, but its effectiveness can diminish over time due to factors like moisture, pests, and settling. Fiberglass and cellulose insulation typically last 20-30 years, while spray foam can last much longer. It’s recommended to check insulation every 15-20 years or if you notice signs of deterioration, such as increased energy bills or drafts.

What They Say About Us
I called HomeRX to address our insulation issues. Already we paid thousands to another company but this old house was drafty and at 57 degrees Fahrenheit very cold. Abraham and Saoul showed up with the Blower door test and we could feel and see, where the air went out. The number for the house were very high. The crew went to work and “air sealed” our home up side down. Within two days our house felt cozy with normal temperatures of 65 at night. I had lots of questions and Abraham was the best in customer service. BTW: Compared to the other company, they were very reasonable.
I was in a time crunch to get spray foam installed on a bdrm remodel. Had estimator arrive on time. Price was as expected after my research. It was approx. a 2 week wait for appointment but I was on waiting list for cancelation. Got an appointment, crew arrived. This is where I was impressed. The 2 man crew, Eleazar Caal & Yony Matias assessed the job. Set up plastic to protect everything, wires, plugs, lights, floors even signage for the public. The job was perfect for me. Scraped overspray off all studs for my sheetrock and a great cleanup job. I would definitely use them again & request the same 2 employees.
Easy to work with. Great value and much better insulation than we had before so happy customers 😃
HomeRx is the third insulation company I've used in the Portland area and the only one I call on for more projects I need help with. They are flexible with schedules and do very detailed work, and the guys on the job sites have been great. Add to it all very competitive pricing, and you have the insulation company you need. I highly recommend them!
We were very happy working with HomeRx in getting an insulation upgrade for our home. Nelsin was great to work with and provided a very detailed bid for separate parts of the job. The attention to detail helped separate his bid from others. And the installation crew were awesome, working very hard in our very tight crawl space.
Had HomeRX install a vapor barrier in my crawl space. Guys were awesome. Arrived right on time, worked super-diligently, cleaned up and finished the job very professionally. Could not be happier with HomeRX. Highly recommend!
Everyone was great to work with, answered all our questions, and did a thorough attic inspection including pictures. Scheduling was easy and everyone showed up when they said they would.
Great work, great communication! 10/10
I found there estimate to be very comprehensive compared to other vendors. The installation was expertly done with good follow up from the main office.
Stephen came out explained what they would do and how they did it. He was very thorough and professional in explaining his answers to my many questions. The crew followed up and worked 10 hours installing the insulation and prepping the attic. They did a top notch job just as Stephen reassured me they would. Thank you!
We contacted HomeRx for an estimate on our attic upgrade. Our initial contact was Nelsin, who was outstanding! He was very thorough in acquiring the information needed and explaining the process. He carefully inspected the attic and discussed his findings with photos he took! He offered several options to proceed and finalized our estimate that same day. Nelsin was easy to work with, knowledgeable, and professional. A crew arrived several weeks later to do the work. It was during a heat wave. They were very careful and stayed safe, going above and beyond to make sure everything was done perfectly. The effects were immediate and amazing! We are very satisfied customers and highly recommend HomeRx.
They did a fantastic job for a very reasonable price.
